Softball shuts out Illinois College, 2-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Courtesy of 11 strikeouts in four innings by senior pitcher Ronni Ferris, the Birmingham-Southern softball team shut out Illinois College, 2-0, at home Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers move to 6-0 on the season, while the Lady Blues fall to 0-1.

BSC scored its runs in the bottom of the first and fourth innongs, both thanks to RBI hits by junior Brittany Berkopec.

Ferris started in the circle and threw four innings, striking out 11 of the 16 batters she faced while giving up only one hit and one walk. Freshman Bethany Fronk came in for the final three innings to pick up the save, striking out six batters and also allowing only one hit and one walk.

BSC racked up nine hits, led by Berkopec and freshmen Taylor Bassett and Erin Lopez with two apiece.

The Panthers are on the road next weekend, traveling to face Covenant College, Friday, and Maryville College, Sunday.
