BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by senior Ashley Bice who was 5-6 at the plate with 4 RBI today, the Birmingham-Southern softball team picked up two more wins against Centre to sweep the four-game conference series against the Colonels.
The Panthers won by the scores of 7-2 and 6-0 to move to 23-5 overall and 11-1 in the SCAC, still leading the East Division standings and looking to win their second straight East Division title.
BSC went up 5-0 in game one before Centre scored its two runs in the top of the third inning. The Panthers added two more in the bottom of the fourth and recorded 12 total runs, led by junior Brittany Berkopec, who was 3-4 at the plate. Bice and junior Danielle Rucker were both 2-2, and Ferris and freshman Erin Lopez were both 2-4. Bice led with two RBI.
Ferris started in the circle and threw all seven innings, recording four strikeouts and giving up four hits to move to 9-4 on the season.
In game two, the Panthers scored once in the bottom of the third, four times in the bottom of the fourth, and again in the bottom of the fifth. They had nine total hits, led by Bice with her 3-4 showing and two RBI. Berkopec was also 2-4.
Freshman Bethany Fronk threw the complete game shutout to move to 10-0 on the year, allowing five hits with four strikeouts.
The Panthers travel to face Huntingdon next Friday, April 13, for a 2 p.m. doubleheader, and will face Berry College on the road next Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. ET.
