BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team will face No. 15 Redlands to open NCAA Regional play this Friday, May 11, at 1:30 p.m. Central in Tyler, Texas.
BSC, the sixth seed in the regional, stands at 34-9 on the season after winning the SCAC championship last weekend in its first year of post-season eligibility. The Panthers won in dramatic fashion, defeating Trinity twice on the final day with a walk-off home run by freshman Taylor Bassett in the bottom of the 10th inning of the championship game.
No. 15 Redlands, out of Redlands, Calif., is an at-large selection to the tournament with a 31-11 record and is the third seed in the regional. The Bulldogs lost to No. 18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament on April 28.
NCAA Regional play will begin later this week, either Thursday or Friday, hosted by No. 7 Texas-Tyler, who is the top seed in the regional. Other teams traveling to Tyler are No. 5 Pacific Lutheran (second seed), Louisiana College (fourth seed), No. 18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (fifth seed), and Huntingdon (seventh seed).
