Creps, Statham earn SAA weekly softball honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Birmingham-Southern softball players Deanna Creps and Alyssa Statham swept the weekly Southern Athletic Association softball honors today, the league office has announced.

Creps, a freshman from Union Grove, Ala., was named Pitcher of the Week, while Statham, a sophomore from New Market, Ala., was named Player of the Week.

Creps got her name in the Birmingham-Southern record book this past weekend, throwing a perfect game against Sewanee on Saturday. It was the fifth perfect game in program history, and the first by a freshman. Creps threw all five innings and recorded one strikeout in the contest. On Friday she also picked up a win against the Tigers, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up only two hits and two earned runs. For the week, Creps was 2-0 after tossing 9.2 innings in which she allowed just two hits and two earned runs. She faced 30 total batters and recorded a near untouchable .067 opponent batting average.

Statham helped the softball team to a 4-0 week with a series sweep of conference rival Sewanee last weekend. Over the four games, she hit .833, going 10-for-12 at the plate, including 3-for-3 performances in the first three games of the series. Statham recorded a double and two home runs, scored six runs, and plated 11 RBI and 17 total bases. She also posted a 1.417 slugging percentage and a .846 on-base percentage to help the Panthers strengthen their hold on first place in the SAA standings.
