BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Sophomore Taylor Bassett has been named the Southern Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week, it was announced today.
Bassett, an infielder from Orlando, Fla., broke the single-season and career home run records this past weekend in the Hendrix series, going long-ball in three of four games to push her season total to 14 and career total to 21. She helped the Panthers win the series, 3-1, and to move to 13-3 in conference play. For the weekend, Bassett was 8-for-11 (.727) at the plate with three home runs, two doubles, a triple, and six RBI. She had a 1.909 slugging percentage, 21 total bases, and an .800 on-base percentage. In the field from her post at shortstop, Bassett recorded 11 putouts and four assists for an .882 fielding percentage.
BSC is at home this weekend for the last time this season, hosting Berry College in noon doubleheaders both Saturday and Sunday.
