Softball suffers first loss in SAA Championship
DANVILLE, Ky.--A three-run home run in the sixth inning by Millsaps helped the fifth-seeded Majors upset the third-seeded Birmingham-Southern softball team, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in the Southern Athletic Association Softball Championship, hosted by Centre College in Danville, Ky.
The home run from Kaitlyn Dole broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth. The Panthers (26-17) were able to score one run in the top of the seventh, but no more than that, allowing the Majors (23-19) to notch their third straight upset of the tournament so far. Millsaps defeated fourth-seed Centre and top-seeded Berry yesterday.
Sophomore pitcher Bethany Fronk threw yet another complete game today, giving up six hits with five strikeouts in six innings. She has thrown 26 innings over the last 36 hours.
The Panthers were supposed to face off against Berry this evening at 8 p.m. Eastern, but the game was postponed due to rain and will be played Sunday at noon.
