BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–After earning First-Team All-Region honors last week, sophomore Taylor Bassett was selected today as a Third-Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Bassett was voted 2013 Southern Athletic Association Player of the Year after leading the league in home runs (17), RBIs (47), and batting average (.459). She ranked second in the nation in home runs, second in walks per game (1.04), third in on-base percentage (.617), and sixth in slugging percentage (1.000). Bassett was named BSC Co-Female Athlete of the Year, and is now the program's leading home run hitter with 21 in her two-year career.
The 2013 NFCA Division III All-American awards are chosen by a committee of eight NFCA member head coaches, representing the eight regions of NCAA Division III softball. Student-athletes must be selected to an NFCA All-Region First Team to be eligible for NFCA Division III All-American honors.
