BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern pitcher Taylor Harkins has been named the Southern Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today.
Harkins, a sophomore right-hander from Mountain Brook, Ala., helped BSC split with No. 24 Piedmont on Saturday to open the season, pitching 4.1 relief innings in a 5-4 loss before throwing a complete-game shutout in game two. For the two games she pitched 11.1 innings with 10 strikeouts, giving up 12 hits and only one earned run and one walk, posting a 0.62 ERA and allowing a .267 opponent batting average.
The softball team is on the road this week, traveling to Atlanta for the 3n2 Classic, hosted by No. 16 Emory. The Panthers will face Emory at 10 a.m. ET and Roanoke College at noon ET on Saturday, and then Roanoke again on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET followed by another game against Emory at 2 p.m. ET.
