BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games Wednesday afternoon with two wins over Agnes Scott College at BSC Softball Park. The Panthers won by the scores of 7-1 and 8-0.
BSC moved to 19-5-1 overall, while the Scotties fell to 6-18.
The Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning of game one before giving up a run—the Scotties' only run of the day—in the top of the fourth. BSC tacked on three more in the bottom of the fifth, leading to a final of 7-1.
Senior Bethany Fronk led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-3 with three RBI, and she also threw the complete game, moving to 10-1 on the season. She gave up six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.
In game two the Panthers scored quickly, putting up three runs in the first and two each in the bottom of the second and third to pull out to a 7-0 lead. Neither team would score again until the bottom of the sixth; with two outs on the board, freshman Emily Turner pinch hit and doubled to right-center before freshman Kaley Eastwood brought in the game-winning run with a deep walk-off single to left-center to end the game early at 8-0.
Sophomore Maddie Ridgway was 3-4 and sophomore Amanda Ballew was 2-3, while senior Taylor Bassett led with two RBI. Sophomore Taylor Harkins (9-4) pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
The Panthers are in action at home again tomorrow, hosting Talladega College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
