BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team entered the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 this week, debuting at No. 22 in the nation.
The Panthers are 14-4 on the season, and this past weekend defeated No. 22 Alma College, No. 23 Linfield College, and No. 24 Kean University at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. The Panthers also defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who entered the rankings this week at No. 17.
The ranking is the highest for the program; the Panthers were ranked 25th in the nation last year near the end of the season.
Texas-Tyler (17-2) was this week's unanimous No. 1 pick, followed by Emory (21-1) at No. 2 and Christopher Newport (14-1) at No. 3.
Fellow Southern Athletic Association member Berry College (17-4) is also ranked, tied for ninth with Washington University (14-4).
