BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern softball team starts its 2017 campaign ranked No. 13 in the country, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced. The Panthers are one of two Southern Athletic Association programs to be recognized in the Division III coaches poll.
"We are extremely excited as a team and we appreciate the recognition," said Head Coach Kimball Casssady. "We put in a lot of work to get here, but we understand it's not about where you start, it's about where you finish."
BSC went 37-10 last season, claiming the SAA regular season title with a 16-2 conference record. Despite falling to Berry, who opens 2017 ranked sixth nationally, in the conference tournament championship, the Panthers received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and closed their year 2-1 at regionals.
The Panthers open the 2017 season at home in a doubleheader against Piedmont College on Saturday, Feb. 11. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
