SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving teams placed second this weekend at the Sewanee Winter Invitational, with Panther athletes winning individual titles in 14 different events.
On the women's side, freshman Hannah Busk won three events: the 200-yard individual medley, 200-yard backstroke, and 100-yard backstroke, in which she broke a pool record. Freshman Kristen Stempak won the 100-yard freestyle and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle, and junior StellaJean Wilson won the one-meter diving and finished third in the three-meter. Freshman Laura Robertson also finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle, freshman Lauren Kinsey was second in the 200-yard backstroke and third in both the 400-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle, and freshman Molly Waddell was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly.
For the men, freshman Duncan Bonney won the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley, and 200-yard breaststroke, and freshman Drew Priede won the 500-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle. Junior Cody Spradlin won both the one-meter and three-meter diving, and freshman Wil Cushman placed first in the 200-yard backstroke and second in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Saul Hack won the 100-yard freestyle, and freshman Matt Gonzalez placed second in the 400-yard individual medley.
BSC is back in action after the holidays, taking on Rhodes College on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
