Women place first, men second at Berry Viking Classic

ROME, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for 14 pool records and 11 school records at the Berry Viking Classic this weekend in Rome, Ga.

The Panther women won the meet with a team score of 649, while the men placed second among the four schools competing with a score of 560 behind winner Berry with 628.

Freshman Hannah Busk led the women's team with wins in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard backstroke, all of which were new pool records. Freshman Molly Waddell won the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Lauren Kinsey won the 500-yard freestyle, and freshman Kristen Stempak won the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Freshman Lauren Robertson also won the 1,650, and junior Stellajean Wilson won the one-meter dive.

Freshman Duncan Bonney led on the men's side with wins in the 50-yard freestyle and 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes. Freshman Drew Priede won the 500-yard freestyle and was second in the 200-yard freestyle, and junior Cody Spradlin won the one-meter dive.
