Men first, women second against Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving teams competed in a dual match against Rhodes College on Saturday, with the men defeating the Lynx 190-66 but the women losing 160-102.

The Panthers were missing several swimmers due to illness. The men dominated the meet, winning every event, with five athletes winning multiple events: freshman Will Barton (200 free, 200 back), junior Drew Priede (200 fly, 100 free), junior Duncan Bonney (100 breast, 100 fly), freshman Stone Strankman (200 breast, 200 IM), and junior Matt Gonzalez (50 free, 500 free). Other individual winners included sophomore Sam Cook (1000 free) and sophomore Scott Taylor (100 back).

On the women's side, junior Kristen Stempak had two individual wins (50 free, 100 free) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay, along with sophomore Erica Dekle, junior Peyton Langley, and freshman Katie Kassis. Stempak was also on the winning 400 free relay team with Langley, freshman Sara Catherine Murphy, and junior Lauren Robertson. Robertson also won the 1000 free and freshman Emma Gladstone was second in the 1000 free.

The Panthers are at home this Saturday, Nov. 1, hosting a dual meet against five-time defending national champion Emory, whose women were ranked first and men were ranked third at the end of last season.
