Swimming and Diving has successful weekend at CrossPlex

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving teams had a productive weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex, hosting Darton State and LaGrange on Friday, and Sewanee and West Florida on Saturday.

The 13th-ranked Panther men defeated LaGrange and Darton on Friday, and Sewanee on Saturday.

On Friday against Darton and LaGrange, junior Abby Sims won both the 1-meter and 3-meter, and broke the 3-meter school record with a score of 174.66. She broke that record again on Saturday with a score of 186.00.

Also on Friday, junior Drew Priede had three first-place finishes, winning the 200 fly (2:00.56), 100 free (48.33), and 500 free (4:53.16). Junior Wil Cushman won the 200 free with a time of 1:46.4, junior Kristen Stempak won the 100 back (1:03.39) and 500 free (5:31.19), and freshman Wil Barton won the 100 back (54.06) and 200 back (1:57.04). Sophomore Jordan Ames won the 200 fly (2:17.90), sophomore Marilyn Rowell won the 50 free (26.36), junior Lauren Kinsey won the 200 back (2:20.06), junior Matt Gonzalez won the 200 fly (54.38), and junior Lauren Robertson won the 200 IM (2:24.34).

On Saturday, Priede won the 200 free (1:44.36) and 500 free (4:43.39), junior Duncan Bonney won the 50 free (21.65) and 100 back (53.13), and freshman Caleb Riggs won the 400 IM (4:17.22) and 100 breast (1:00.28). Cushman won the 1650 free (17:04.51), and senior David Lutomski won the 100 fly (54.61).

The Panthers travel to Rome, Ga., next weekend for the Berry Invitational.
