CLEVELAND, Miss.—The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving women's team remained in third place and the men in fourth after the second day of competition at the Delta State Christmas Invitational, Sunday in Cleveland, Miss.
Highlights included sophomore Katie Miller breaking the 100-yard breaststroke program record, placing fourth with a time of 1:06.27, and on the men's side, senior Drew Priede finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle with an NCAA 'B' time of 1:40.62, and freshman Justin Staab breaking the BSC record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, placing sixth with a time of 9:41.79.
Miller was also a member of the fifth-place 400-yard medley relay team, along with freshman Heather Heacock, sophomore Katie Kassis, and senior Molly Waddell. The 800-yard free relay team (senior Kristen Stempak, sophomore Sarah Catherine Murphy, Heacock, and Waddell) was also fifth with a time of 8:02.28, and Heacock was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.62. Kassis was also fifth in the 100-yard butterfly, senior Lauren Robertson was sixth in the 400-yard IM, and Stempak was ninth in the 200-yard freestyle.
For the men, Priede was also a member of the fifth-place 800-yard free relay team, along with senior Wil Cushman, sophomore Wil Barton, and sophomore Luke Huffstutler, as well as the eight-place 400-yard medley relay team with junior Scott Taylor, sophomore Caleb Riggs, and Huffstutler. Riggs was also fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, Taylor was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, and Huffstutler was eighth in the 100-yard butterfly. Sophomore Brady Coleman also turned in an eight-place finish in the 400-yard IM.
Competition concludes on Monday at the DSU Aquatics Center.
