BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished first in their home opener at the Birmingham CrossPlex Saturday afternoon defeating Berry College and Loyola University. The men scored 96 points while the women earned 116.
The Panthers won 12 events on the day.
Nico Medina (Davie, Fla./American Heritage HS) earned three wins. He won the 200 free, 500 free, and was on the winning 400 medley relay. Justin Staab (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook HS) won both the 1,000 free and the 200 fly.
Top performers on the women's side included Jenna Luth (Pensacola, Fla./Booker T. Washington HS), Chelsea Chamblee (Boaz, Ala./Boaz HS) and Katie Kassis (Mableton, Ga./Whitefield Academy). Luth finished the 1,000 free over 23 seconds faster than second place. Chamblee won the 50 free in 25 seconds flat. And Kassis took the 200 fly, winning in 28 hundredths of a second.
The Panthers head to the Sewanee Invite next, competing October 28-29.
