Swimming and Diving Women Finish First, Men Second at Wabash Meet

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at the 2018 Wabash Invitational on Sunday.

The Panther women, who totaled 2345 points, captured the invitational title, while the men's squad came up just short with 2637.5 points to finish second behind Saginaw Valley State at the Wabash meet.

Both the men and women captured 400-yard freestyle relay victories at the meet with the men completing the relay with a time of 3:06. 92 and the women finishing first with a mark of 3:32.86.

The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team was Patrick Dunne (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen Catholic HS), Nico Medina (Hollywood, Fla./American Heritage HS), Wil Retersdorf (Spring Hill, Tenn./Independence HS) and Ryan Emili (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage HS), and the women's 400-yard free relay team was Becca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS), Mary Katherine Stewart (Daphne, Ala./Daphne HS), Anna Jordan Luth (Pensacola, Fla./Booker T. Washington HS) and Chelsea Chamblee (Boaz, Ala./Boaz HS).

Dunne was the sole individual winner of the final day for BSC, taking first in the men's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.13.

Other notable performances for the Panthers were Anna Jordan Luth, who finished second in the women's 100-yard IM; Medina, who finished third in the men's 1650-yard freestyle; Connor McClain (Elkmont, Ala./Homeschooled), who took third in the men's 100-yard IM; Stewart, who finished second in the women's 200-yard backstroke; and Emili, who placed second in the men's 100-yard freestyle.

The Wabash Invitational was the final meet of 2018 for the Panthers. Birmingham-Southern will return to competition in the pool in January when the teams travel for the Berry College Invite on Jan. 11-12, 2019.
