BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Former Birmingham-Southern track and field star Aly Goldfarb, who moved to Israel in February to run for the Oren Hasharon professional track club, has been selected as a member of the Israeli National Track Team.
In her first meet running for Oren Hasharon, Goldfarb ran the 1,500-meters, an event she'd never competed in before, and won with a time of 4:45, putting her in the top 50 all-time for Israeli women.
Then, this past weekend, she won the 800-meters and was immediately invited to join the National Team. Goldfarb will travel as part of the Israeli Team to the European Team Championships in Reykjavik, Iceland, June 18-19, competing in both the 800m and 1500m.
Goldfarb was recently featured in an article by the Birmingham Jewish Federation; in it, she talks about her dreams of competing at an international level, as well as her life in Israel. The article can be found here.
