Track & Field results from Birmingham Icebreaker

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern track and field teams kicked off the indoor season this week by hosting, along with Samford and UAB, the Birmingham Icebreaker at the new Birmingham CrossPlex.

On the women's side, junior Jessica Thornton placed second in the mile run with a time of 5:15.45.

For the BSC men, junior Robert Willett finished fourth in the mile with a time of 4:34.80, sophomore Christian Clesi finished fourth in the 3K run with a time of 9:51.91, and sophomore Hank Ballard was sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.25 meters.

"It was a great meet and competitive field for our season opener," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "Our athletes that had a chance to compete had an opportunity to see where they are, and our coaching staff also used this as a chance to see what we need to work on going forward."

The Panthers are not back in action until after the New Year, when they will compete in the UAB Blazer Invitational, Jan. 12-13, 2012.
