BSC to honor first-ever NCAA Division III All-American Track and Field athletes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern will recognize its three 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field All-Americans--the first in the college's history--between games of a BSC baseball doubleheader on Friday, April 6.

Tiarra Goode, a sophomore from Huntsville's J.O. Johnson High School; Jessica Thornton, a junior from Huntsville's Sparkman High School; and Robert Willett, a junior from Mobile's UMS-Wright Preparatory School, were all named 2012 NCAA Division III All-Americans following the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships on the campus of Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, in March.

The trio will be presented with their All-American honors around 6:15 p.m. April 6 between games of the BSC baseball doubleheader against Centre College at Striplin Field on the Birmingham-Southern campus.

Goode ran the 60-meter indoor hurdles in 8.56 seconds at the National Championships to become the 2012 NCAA Division III national champion. She is Birmingham-Southern's first-ever national champion at the Division III level, in its first year of full eligibility. Her time was a personal record, stadium record, and NCAA record.

Willett placed third in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.77, and Thornton placed fifth in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.47.
