Panthers post strong showing in Hilltop Twilight Track & Field Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern track and field teams hosted the Hilltop Twilight Classic today in Panther Stadium and had several winners and top performances.

On the women's side, sophomore Tiarra Goode won the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.07 and the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56, and junior Jessica Thornton won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.05. Sophomore Victoria Ports won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:15.20, and junior Shelby Moore won the javelin throw with a distance of 34.98 meters.

For the men, senior Mitch Swanson won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.73, and freshman Andrew Archer won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.97 and the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.47. Junior Robert Willett won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.26, junior Trent Blumenthal won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:11.94, and junior David Olsen won the 5K with a time of 17:19.58.

"This was a good meet and the atmosphere was amazing at this three-way meet for our athletes," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "As we start the month off in preparation for conference, it was a great opportunity to see where our men and women are and what we need to work on in the coming weeks. I am very proud of the way we all came together and competed from the beginning to the end of the meet."
