SEWANEE, Tenn.--On day one of the 2013 Southern Athletic Association Track & Field Championship, hosted by Sewanee, junior Hank Ballard won the pole vault title to become BSC's first SAA track & field champion.
Ballard recorded a mark of 4.57 meters to win the title. Freshman Scott Wheat and junior Christian Clesi also finished second and third, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
On the women's side, junior Tiarra Goode came in first in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 100-meter hurdles.
In the team standings after day one, the men are third with 44 points and the women are seventh with eight points. Action concludes tomorrow.
"Today was a very exciting day, we had some great performances out of our men and women," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "It's going to be a great final day tomorrow, I'm looking forward to a lot more good things happening!"
