BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern track and field teams opened the 2014 outdoor schedule this weekend at home, hosting the 'Southern Invitational, where four Panthers won individual events.
On the women's side, sophomore Elise Pittman won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and freshman Harper DeWine won the pole vault. For the men, senior Hank Ballard won the javelin throw and freshman Michael Snow won the hammer throw.
Other impressive finishes on the women's side included freshman Sage Jordan placing second in the 400-meter dash, senior Elizabeth Bromirski finishing second in the high jump, and freshman Emory Builta placing third in the hammer throw.
For the men, sophomore John White was second in the 800-meter run, senior Cody Mann was second in the javelin throw and third in the high jump, and Ballard was second in the pole vault. Snow also placed third in the shot put and discus, and senior Will Hagood was second in the hammer throw.
The teams travel to Atlanta, Ga., this weekend to compete in the Emory Invitational.
