SEWANEE, Tenn.—With seven first-place finishes, the Birmingham-Southern track and field teams both placed second at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational, Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn.
On the women's side, senior Tiarra Goode won the 55-meter dash and 200-meter dash, and sophomore Elise Pittman won the mile and 3,000-meter run. Freshman Earen Robinson also won the weight throw, and was second in the shot put, and freshman Karmin Shute finished second in the 55 and 200. Freshman Milan McGruder-Barbee placed third in the 200, and freshman Marqueisha Morton was third in the 55. The women's 4x400-meter relay team also finished third.
For the men, freshman Jourdan Davison won the 200-meter dash and 400-meter run, sophomore Raleigh Payton was second in the weight throw, and sophomore Jarett Mason was second in the 3,000-meter run. Sophomore Foster Johnstone placed second in the 800-meter run and third in the mile run. Sophomore Scott Lewis was also third in both the long jump and high jump, and the men were third in the 4x400-meter relay.
"We had tremendous performances by our athletes on both teams today," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "As we transition into our outdoor season in a few weeks, I am proud of the way they competed. This was a perfect meet for us to be a part of and I am encouraged by the outcome!"
The Panthers will host the first meet of the outdoor season in two weeks, the 'Southern Invitational, March 13-14 at Panther Stadium.
