GRINNELL, Iowa—Sophomore sprinter Jamal Watkins came in a close second today in the finals of the 60-meter sprint at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, Saturday at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
Watkins, from Hampton, Ga., clocked a time of 6.76, just 0.03 seconds behind first-place finisher and national champion Alex Koenen of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He ran a 6.72 in Friday's preliminaries, which broke the Grinnell College facility record of 6.75, set in 2012.
Watkins is BSC's 26th NCAA track and field qualifier since 2012, marking BSC's ninth straight appearance in the NCAA post-season. He now enters the outdoor season and looks to make noise there as well.
Watkins is a two-sport athlete for the Panthers, having had an impressive debut season this past fall as a wide receiver for the football team.
