BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Sophomore sprinter Jamal Watkins and freshman jumper Cameron Luster have both qualified for next week's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, it was announced earlier this evening.

Watkins, a sophomore transfer from Hampton, Ga., qualified in both the 100- and 200-meter dash; he ranks second in the nation in the 100 and eighth in the 200. He was the 2016 Southern Athletic Association Men's Track Athlete of the Year and Men's Newcomer of the Year after winning four gold medals at the SAA Championship, helping the Panthers clinch their first team title. In the indoor season, he was the runner-up in the 60-meter dash, earning All-American honors.

Luster, a freshman from Jonesboro, Ark., qualified in the triple jump. He ranks 17th in the nation with a mark of 14.45 meters; Luster won silver at the SAA Championship in that event.

For each men's individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. The championships will be held May 26-28 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
