Panthers Close out Month at KMS Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the KMS Invitational Sunday at the Birmingham CrossPlex, continuing their trials against teams from all three NCAA Divisions.  Both teams saw great individual performances.

 

On the men's side, Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) placed fourth in the 60m finals after coming in third in the preliminaries. His fastest time on the day was 6.81 seconds.  He went on to place 17th in the 200m.

 

The distance medley relay team of Raleigh Schmidt (Madison, Ala./James Clemmons HS), Aaron Beane (Madison, Ala./James Clemmons HS), Foster Johnstone (Jackson, Tenn./Madison Academic Magnet HS), and Justin Peifer (Montgomery, Ala./Saint James School) finished sixth in a time of 11:47 and the 4x400m 'A' relay team placed 16th.

 

In the field, David Campbell (Semmes, Ala./Murphy HS) finished ninth in the pole vault with a height of 4.10m, and Javon Jones (Mobile, Ala./Cottage Hill Christian Academy) was 14th in the triple jump at 12.73m.

 

Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) continues to dominate in the weight throw. He won the event with a distance of 16.46m. Joseph Smith (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery HS) came in sixth and Michael Snow (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) finished 10th.  Snow also finished 14th in the shot put.

 

On the women's side, the distance medley relay team of Maggie Lucas (Helena, Ala./Helena HS), Bethany Kuerten (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS), Lauren Krzstowczyl (Nashville, Tenn./Independence HS), and Elise Pittman (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) finished fifth overall in a time of 13:43.

 

In the field, Alexus Lindsey (Holly Pond, Ala./Fairview HS) placed ninth in the pole vault with a height of 3.05m, and Jazmin Norris (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) placed 18th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.11m.

 

The Panthers take a short break before returning to action on Saturday, Feb. 11.  They will split up and travel to both the Tiger Indoor Invitation in Sewanee, Tenn. and the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.
