SEWANEE, Tenn. – Both Birmingham-Southern men's and women's indoor track and field teams finished first at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational Friday afternoon. The men outscored second place finisher Oglethorpe by 76 points, finishing with 167 team points. The women finished 16 points ahead of Emory to earn the win with 148 team points.
The Panthers also went 1-2 in the 3K. Timothy McOmber (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Catholic Prep) won the 3K in 8:52 with Chris Roberts (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) right behind at 8:53. And BSC's 4x400m relay team of Andrew Triplett (Hermitage, Tenn./Father Ryan HS), Garrett Talley (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS), Javon Jones (Mobile, Ala./Cottage Hill Christian Academy), and Amir Sims (Orlando, Fla./Union Grove HS) finished first in a time of 3:41.
In the field, Javon Jones (Mobile, Ala./Cottage Hill Christian Academy) took both the long jump and triple jump. His mark of 6.43m in the long jump was a personal best.
On the women's side, Earen Robinson (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen Catholic HS) won both the shot put and weight throw with season-high marks in both events. Madelyn Nicastro (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom HS) won the high jump with a career-best mark of 1.50m.
And Elise Pittman (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) and Morgan Reynolds (Indian Springs, Ala./The Westminster School at Oak Mountain) went 1-2 in the 3K, finishing at 11:16 and 11:18, respectively.
Some Panthers head to the Indoor Last Chance Qualifer in Roanoke, Va. on March 4 next to close out the indoor season. They will being outdoor at home this year in the 'Southern Invitational on March 12-11 at Krulak Stadium.
