BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) headlined the group of eight Birmingham-Southern track and field student-athletes to be named Indoor South/Southeast All-Region by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recently. Watkins will be making his second trip to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.
"I am very proud of the hard work that our team has put into preparing for the indoor season," said Head Coach Kenneth Cox. "Each year we make amazing improvements and that commitment is paying off for each one of our athletes. These awards continue to give them fuel for the outdoor season and we are in great anticipation of what this year will bring."
Watkins earned all-region honors in the 60 and 200. He was joined by throwers Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) and Michael Snow (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS), and pole vaulter David Campbell (Semmes, Ala./Murphy HS) on the men's all-region team.
On the women's side, the 4x400 relay team of Karmin Shute (Fayetteville, Ga./The Walker School), Jessica Allen (Lithonia, Ga./Arabia Mountain HS), Rebecca Bryant (Decatur, Ga./Marist School), and Sage Jordan (Huntsville, Ala./Randolph HS) earned all-region honors. Shute was also recognized in the 60.
