Men’s Track and Field Ranked 14th Nationally

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following an impressive performance at the Southern Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Birmingham-Southern men's team moved up 22 positions in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll.  The Panthers are now ranked 14th in the country and third in the South/Southeast Region.


"This is the highest men's ranking ever," said Head Coach Kenneth Cox.  "We are excited about the progress that we have made.  I am so proud of our student-athletes and looking forward to preparing for the postseason.  It is a special time of the year and we have some incredible guys that are looking to finish strong."


BSC won the SAA title by more than 80 points ahead of the second place finisher.  They took first in 10 events and brought home 18 medals.  The Panthers have four top 10 performances led by Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC).  He has the third fastest 100 time and fifth fastest 200 time. 


The 4x100 team of Jalon Hollie (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park HS), Damian Mitchell (Maplesville, Ala./Maplesville HS), Amir Sims (Orlando, Fla./Union Grove HS), and Watkins own the fourth fastest time in country.  And Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) threw the seventh best hammer throw mark this season.


The women are ranked 10th in the regional rankings.
