NCAA Championships: Panthers Qualify for Finals

NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern men's track and field qualified for the finals in two events at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships Thursday afternoon.
 

The 4x100 relay team of Damian Mitchell (Maplesville, Ala./Maplesville HS), Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC), Amir Sims (Orlando, Fla./Union Grove HS), and Jalon Hollie (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park HS) ran a 41.296 in the prelims to make the national finals.  The time just edged out their previous season-high of 41.30.

 

Watkins went on to qualify for the 200 meter finals.  He crossed in 21.53, just 0.05 seconds behind the seventh place finisher.  He will also compete in the 100 prelims Friday at 2:30 p.m.

 

The 4x100 relay and 200 finals take place on Saturday.
