BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern track and field will be sending four Panthers to compete in six events at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships May 24-26 in La Crosse, Wisc.
"We have a strong group of athletes that will be representing our college," said Head Coach Kenneth Cox. "They have each worked extremely hard to be one of the nation's top performers and there is no greater collegiate reward than to be able to finish the season at the championships."
Seniors Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) and Karmin Shute (Fayetteville, Ga./The Walker School) will both compete in the 100m and 200m dashes. Watkins, the reigning 100m champion, secured his spots in the championship meet by posting top 10 times in both events. Shute currently holds the second fastest 200m time in the country after running a personal record 24.26 at the Southern Athletic Association Championships last month. Her personal best time of 11.82 in the 100 is the fourth fastest this year.
Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) makes his second trip to the championships after qualifying in the hammer throw. His toss of 59.36m is the ninth best this year and set new personal and BSC records. Earning a trip to the championships in his first season is thrower Luke Ballard (Hoover, Ala./Hoover). He set a personal record with a mark of 62.47m in the javelin throw at conference championships to qualify.
