TROY, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's track and field teams competed against programs from all divisions of the NCAA Saturday at the Doc Anderson Invitational hosted by Troy University. The men had a strong showing, finishing third overall, just 15.5 points behind the Division I program from Alabama A&M.
Luke Ballard (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS) won the javelin throw with a personal and program record distance of 65.85m, more than 6.3m further than the second place finisher. Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) also set a new personal and program record. He finished second in the hammer throw at 59.46m.
Griffin Riner (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) and Jordan Jones (Powder Springs, Ga./Hiram HS) earned second in their respective events. Riner cleared 1.75m in the high jump and Jones went 6.73m in the long jump. Both marks were personal records for the pair.
On the women's side, Marjorie Head (Columbiana, Ala./Shelby County HS) was the Panthers top finisher. She crossed the line in 11:11.81 during the 3k to place fifth.
BSC travels to the Falcon Classic next. The Panthers will be in Montevallo, Ala. Friday, March 22-23.
