BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their indoor season by hosting the BSC Indoor Icebreaker Friday. They had a strong showing at the Birmingham CrossPlex, with several top 20 finishes competing against teams from each NCAA division and the NAIA.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – As the head cross country, track and field coach at Birmingham-Southern College, Kenneth Cox has achieved tremendous success. His accomplishments are many, including two-time conference coach and regional coach of the year, Second Vice President for the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, 5 individual national and 38 individual conference titles, 26 All-Americans, and 3 regional athletes of the year.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s track and field team was one of 183 programs recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Panthers earned All-Academic Team honors. Recent graduate Jothani Dixon (Tuscumbia, Ala./Dreschler HS) was named an All-Academic Scholar-Athlete by the organization as well.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Gabriel Goodwin (Corner, Ala./ Corner High School) is a rising junior at Birmingham-Southern College and was a member of the 2017 Southern Athletic Association track and field championship team. Goodwin is majoring in math, with hopes to attend graduate school for a degree in electrical engineering.
Birmingham, Ala.- Emory Builta (Daphne, Ala., Bayside Academy) just parted ways with Birmingham-Southern College as a member of the class of 2017 after four years as a Panther on the women’s track and field team. Builta graduated with a degree in business administration and a minor in psychology, with a distinction in leadership studies. She plans on pursuing a career in property management with hopes of running an apartment complex.
ATLANTA – The SAA announced its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll today for the 2017 spring term and a total of 1,033 student-athletes made the list. To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a stellar weekend at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban’s School for Boys) and Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) were named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Americans.
ATLANTA – The Southern Athletic Association announced the 2017 Spring Sports All-Sportsmanship Teams and 79 student-athletes among the league’s eight full-time members received recognition. Formed in 2011, the SAA places a special emphasis on good sportsmanship and fair play among all competitors.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) picked up his second NCAA Division III national title Saturday as he won the 100 meter dash in a stadium and personal record time of 10.34. Birmingham-Southern men’s track and field would finish 14th overall as a team at national’s.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) ran the top time in the 100 meter dash preliminaries Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships to represent Birmingham-Southern on day two. He has now qualified for three finals in all three of his events this weekend.

The Panthers scored 81 more than Rhodes College with 227.5 points to win their second consecutive SAA championship. The women scored 102.5 points to finish fifth overall.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern outdoor track and field teams hosted their annual Hilltop Classic Saturday, welcoming six top teams from across the country. It was also senior day on the Hilltop and the Panthers performed well in their final home meet of the season.
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Severe weather in the region halted the Montevallo Falcon Track and Field Classic Saturday, but the Birmingham-Southern men’s and women’s track and field teams were already competing tough. The men were in sixth place after 15 events and the women were 11th after 18 events against NCAA Division I-III opponents.
ATLANTA, Ga. – Both the Birmingham-Southern men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed this weekend at the Emory Invitational. The men finished ninth out of 33 teams, while the women placed 27th out of 35.
ATLANTA - The SAA rleased the men's track & field Athletes of the Week for events competed outdoors this past weekend and, following voting by the league head coaches, Will Knowlton of Berry won Track Athlete of the Week while Michael Snow (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) of Birmingham-Southern collected Field Athlete of the Week.
