COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. – The Birmingham-Southern (10-8) Panthers saw their newly minted two-game winning streak come to an end this afternoon at the hands of the Colorado College Tigers, falling 74-59.
The Tigers jumped out on the Panthers early, scoring 11 unanswered points to start the game. The Panthers’ first goal came over five minutes in off a #Katelyn Wilson# layup. From that point BSC was able to get a flow going, steadily chipping away at the Tiger lead until the Panthers got the game tied for the first time since the tipoff with 3:37 left, 23-23. The teams traded buckets until the halftime horn sounded sending both teams in with 28 points.
The second half went much the same as the first. The Tigers built up a 10 point lead due to several Panther miscues on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Unfortunately, this time the lead came with just seven minutes in which to make it up. The Panthers continued to battle, but the shots just wouldn’t fall and the Tigers cruised to the 17-point win.
The Panthers were led by Katelyn Wilson with 17 points. #Courtney Gibson# and #Danielle Harbor# also scored in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, rounding out those in double-digits. Melanie Auguste led the Tigers with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
BSC shot 37-percent from the floor, going 19-of-52; 22-percent from three (4-of-18); and 68-percent from the foul line (15-of-22). The Tigers posted 39-percent from the floor, 41 from behind the arc, and 91-percent from the line (19-of-21).
The Panthers will try and rebound later this week when they return to Bill Battle Coliseum on Friday to host the Millsaps Majors for a 8:00 p.m. tipoff.
