Panther women fall to No. 5 Oglethorpe, 83-58
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team lost to No. 5 Oglethorpe on the road, Sunday, 83-58, in Dorough Field House. The Stormy Petrels move to 21-2, while the Panthers drop to 14-10.
Oglethorpe jumped out to a 7-0 lead within the first two minutes of play and would never trail. Although BSC cut the lead to as little as three, twice, in the first half, the Stormy Petrels maintained control and led 32-24 at the half.
In the second half, OU reached a double-digit lead at the 18:45 mark, going up 38-26, and led by as much as 29, twice, before taking the 25-point victory on Senior Day.
Tina Grace and Anna Findley led Oglethorpe with 21 and 20 points, respectively, and Grace also led with seven rebounds. The Petrels shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field, 45 percent (9-of-20) from three-point range, and 84.2 percent (16-of-19) at the free throw line.
For BSC, sophomore #Courtney Gibson# led with 13 points, and senior #Danielle Harbor# posted 11 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a game-high four assists. The Panthers shot 33.3 percent (22-of-66) overall, 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from three, and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) at the line.
BSC out-rebounded OU, 41-37, but committed 23 turnovers to the Petrels' 15.
The Panthers are on the road again next weekend for the final game of the season, taking on Rhodes College, Saturday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
