Panthers close season on high note, defeat Rhodes 78-63
MEMPHIS – The Birmingham-Southern Panthers closed out the 2008-09 season on the road today at Mallory Gymnasium in Memphis, defeating the Rhodes College Lynx 78-63.
The Panthers scored the first five points and never looked back in the game. BSC led by as many as 13 in the first half thanks to 47-percent shooting from the field. They also took care of things on the defensive end, holding the Lynx to just 30-percent. #Erin Jackson# had 10 points and six rebounds in the half. As a team the Panthers pulled in 22 rebounds in the frame. They pushed these advantages into 38-27 lead at the break.
BSC continued to pour it on deep into the second half. Just over halfway through the half the Panthers pushed their lead out to its zenith at 63-43 with 9:45 remaining off a three from #Katelyn Wilson#. The Lynx never got closer than 13 as the game came to a close.
The Panthers were led by #Danielle Harbor# with 23 points and 9 rebounds, one short of the double-double and a career-high. #Courtney Gibson#, #Erin Jackson#, and #Katelyn Wilson# also scored in double-figures with 12, 10 and 10 points respectively. Becky Atrip led the Lynx with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
BSC shot 48-percent from the floor, going 30-of-63; 48-percent from three (15-of-31); and 37-percent from the foul line (3-of-8). The Lynx posted 31-percent from the floor, 17 from behind the arc, and 79-percent from the line.
The Panthers finish the year with a 15-10 record; the Lynx fall to 13-12.
