Jamie Key, a junior from Section, Ala., was Birmingham-Southern’s women’s selection, and Tyler Marsh, a senior from Miami, Fla., was BSC’s men’s selection.
“We are extremely proud of what Jamie has done to demonstrate her overall commitment to the team and to Birmingham-Southern College,” women’s head coach Brad Hodge said about Key. “Jamie was certainly the most deserving individual of this award and has given a selfless service to the team. Her commitment to individual improvement and bringing a positive work ethic and attitude this season was one of the greatest pleasures I have had in coaching. I anxiously await her next phase of development and response to new challenges.”
“Tyler earned the respect of his coaches and peers as someone who displayed great sportsmanship and character during competition,” men’s head coach Mitch Cole said about Marsh. “He played a significant role in leading his team to a 20-5 record this season, and showed tremendous leadership as a senior captain on and off the floor.”
Twelve men’s basketball and twelve women’s basketball student-athletes were selected to the 2009-2010 squads. The SCAC is placing a special emphasis on sportsmanship this year – asking all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions throughout the 2009-2010 season. Each head coach was asked to elect one member from his or her team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season.
