No. 16 DePauw defeats Panthers, 65-39
GREENCASTLE, Ind. – In the last game of the season, the Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team lost on the road to No. 16 DePauw, 65-39, Sunday afternoon in Neal Fieldhouse.
DePauw, who is leading the SCAC, picked up its 18th straight win and 49th straight home win to move to 22-3 overall and 15-1 in the league. BSC drops to 13-12 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
Although the score was tied, 7-7, five minutes into the game, DePauw pulled ahead after that, scoring 10 straight points to go up 17-7 by the 12:14 mark and leading by 11, 29-18, at the half.
The Tigers steadily expanded their lead through the second half, leading by as much as 30 down the stretch before clinching the 65-39 victory.
Kate Walker was the only DePauw player scoring in double digits with 11 points, while Jenna Fernandez pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Walker also led with four assists and three steals.
Freshman Lauren Parks led the Panthers with 10 points, and junior Jamie Key led with six rebounds.
The Panthers struggled offensively, shooting 27.7 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from three-point range, and 69.2 percent at the free throw line. The Tigers shot 35.6 percent overall, 50 percent from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent at the line.
DePauw out-rebounded BSC, 47-29, and the Panthers committed 22 turnovers to the Tigers’ 14.
