Women's Basketball opens 2009-10 season at home, Monday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team tips off the 2009-10 season at home, Monday, against Oakwood University at 5 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.

The Panthers return to the hardwood with no seniors, two juniors, five sophomores, and 12 freshmen, the biggest freshman class in program history. BSC also returns only two starters in junior Katelyn Wilson and sophomore Erin Jackson.

BSC was 15-10 overall last season, notching wins against in-state rival Huntingdon College, Maryville College, and Emory University, as well as Southwestern University, Austin College, Millsaps College, Hendrix College, Centre College, Sewanee, and Rhodes College in Southern Collegiate Conference action.

After Monday's season opener against Oakwood, the Panthers then host the Sheraton Birmingham Classic, featuring East Texas Baptist University, Rust College, and Huntingdon College, Nov. 20-21. BSC then hosts Berry College, Nov. 24. Other home highlights include Centre and DePauw, Dec. 4 and 6, Huntingdon, Dec. 13, Hendrix and Millsaps, Jan. 22 and 24, Oglethorpe and Sewanee, Feb. 5 and 7, and Rhodes, Feb. 13. In non-conference road play, the Panthers take on Huntingdon, Emory, and Oakwood.

SCAC play will again prove challenging, as DePauw and Trinity are both ranked in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll, with DePauw being named seventh and Trinity ranking 17th.

Monday night's women's game will be followed by the BSC men's season opener, with the Panthers facing LaGrange College at 7 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum. Both games will feature live stats, available here.
