BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Welcoming Huntingdon College, Rust College, and East Texas Baptist University to the Hilltop, the Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team hosts the 2009 Sheraton Birmingham Classic this Friday, Nov. 20, and Saturday, Nov. 21, in Bill Battle Coliseum.
BSC takes on East Texas Baptist on Friday at 6 p.m., immediately following the BSC men’s game against University of the Ozarks, which tips off at 4 p.m. Huntingdon will then face Rust at 8 p.m. following the BSC game against ETBU.
On Saturday, Huntingdon and East Texas Baptist will square off at 2 p.m., followed by the BSC women versus Rust at 4 p.m. The BSC men will also be in action on Saturday against Pensacola Christian College at 6 p.m. following the women’s game against Rust.
The Panther women are 1-0 on the season after defeating Oakwood University, 82-47, this past Monday night. Freshman Stephanie Stanley led the Panthers with 11 points, followed by freshman Melanie Short with 10. Junior Jamie Key and sophomore Laura Kneiss led with six rebounds each. Stanley and freshman Caroline King led with three assists apiece, and Stanley and Key led with four steals each.
Friday’s game will mark the season opener for East Texas Baptist, although the Lady Tigers fell to McNeese State in preseason exhibition play, 76-62, on Nov. 9. Huntingdon enters this weekend’s tournament at 1-0 after defeating Atlanta Christian, 73-67, Tuesday, and Rust stands at 0-1 after an 86-61 loss to Wiley College, Wednesday.
