Women’s Basketball announces 2010-11 schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball staff have released the team’s schedule for the upcoming 2010-11 season.

The Panthers open at home, hosting the Sheraton Classic, Nov. 20-21, featuring Rose-Hulman College, Rust College, and Louisiana College. A road trip to face Division I foe Troy University follows before BSC is at home again to take on Emory, Nov. 28.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play commences Dec. 3 and 5 as the team travels to face DePauw University and Centre College. The Panthers return home for a match-up with Division III provisional member Berry College, Nov. 12, and make a return trip to Rome, Ga., to face the Vikings again on Jan. 5.

BSC also takes a three-game trip to Texas to face East Texas Baptist, LeTourneau University, and newly-announced SCAC member University of Dallas, Dec. 18-20.

“Without any doubt, I believe this is the most difficult and competitive schedule we have faced since our transition to Division III,” Head Coach Brad Hodge said. “Not only do we have to contend with the competitiveness of the SCAC, but we have added a strong non-conference slate with the addition of road games at Troy, Berry, East Texas Baptist, and LeTourneau, as well as the game versus Dallas on the Texas trip.

“We also have the home contests in our Sheraton Classic with Rose-Hulman and Rust, the continued rivalry with Emory, and the other half of the home series with Berry – the latter three of which all defeated us when we played them last season,” Hodge continued. “However, I am comfortable and confident that our team has grown and matured after last season. We are very anxious to see things come together this season.”
