BIRIMINGHAM, Ala. -- Melanie Short recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds to pace five Birmingham-Southern (10-10; 5-4 SAA) players in double figures en route to a 77-56 win over Hendrix College (1-19; 1-8 SAA) Friday at Bill Battle Coliseum.
Trailing 6-2 in the first half, BSC went on a 18-0 run to take a 20-6 lead on a jumper by Syndey Darnall with 13:11 to play.
Hendrix answered with a 10-0 run to trim to lead to 20-16 on a Jamie Tate layup at the 8:18 mark only to see BSC stretch the lead to 13 on Alex Adams' layup with 1:44 remaining in the half.
The Panthers shot better 50 percent in each half, making 15-of-29 shots in the first half to build a 39-30 halftime lead. BSC made 16-of-32 including four 3-point field goals in the second half.
BSC used a 12-3 run in the second half to push the lead to 54-40 on a Kaiser 3-pointer with 12:26 left and later grabbed its biggest lead of the game at 72-51 on an Adams basket with 4:58 left in the contest
Jamie Tate led the Warriors with 17 points and nine rebounds while Estrella Flores added 11 points.
Birmingham –Southern returns to action on Sunday, hosting Rhodes College at 1 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
