BSC falls to league-leading Rhodes, 75-57
MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Despite another double-double performance from senior Elizabeth Bromirski, the Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team lost to Rhodes College, 75-57, Sunday afternoon in Memphis.
The Panthers fall to 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the Southern Athletic Association; the league-leading Lynx move to 17-3 overall and 9-1 in the SAA with their fifth straight win.
Bromirski recorded a team-high 17 points and 14 rebounds for her eight double-double of the season. Freshman Laura van Peursem also established a career-high with 12 points on 5-10 shooting.
Rhodes pulled out to a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes and would never trail. Leading 15-10 at the 10:56 mark, the Lynx used a 15-2 run over the next seven minutes to pull up 32-12, and led 39-17 at the half. The Panthers out-scored Rhodes 40-36 in the second half, with Bromirski scoring 13 of her 17 during that period, but it wasn't enough to overcome the first-half deficit.
SAA leading scorer Lauren Avant led all players with 30 points for Rhodes, and also had a team-high 10 rebounds, while two more Lynx were also in double digits in scoring.
The Lynx held a slight edge in rebounding, 43-41, but the difference-maker was turnovers as BSC committed 21 to Rhodes' nine.
The Panthers return home next weekend, hosting Centre on Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m., and Sewanee on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
