JACKSON, Miss.—The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team moved to 13-1 on the season today with a 60-49 win over Millsaps on the road in Jackson, Miss.
BSC also moved to 3-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Majors fell to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in league action.
The first period was back-and-forth, with six ties and several lead changes. After the first 10 minutes, BSC led 20-17, and the Panthers maintained a lead through the second period as well, going up 31-26 by the half.
The Majors cut the lead to one, twice in the third period, with BSC holding a 41-40 lead heading into the fourth, and Millsaps tied it up three minutes into the fourth, 43-43. The Panthers responded with six straight points to pull up 49-43 with 3:47 left to play, and then ended the game with seven straight points to win by 11.
Senior Ashley Curry led with 15 points, while junior Jasmynn Batts added 12, shooting 5-6 from the field, and senior Yorisha Bryant recorded 10. Bryant and junior Jameice Holmes led with six rebounds each, and senior Halle Knowles led with three assists.
BSC returns home next weekend, hosting Centre on Friday at 6 p.m. and Sewanee on Sunday at 1 p.m.
