BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball program has received a commitment from Elizabeth Philpot, who has completed her intent to enroll in the college this fall, Head Coach Mike Ricks announced today.
Philpot is a 6'1" forward from Birmingham, Ala., and will come to the Hilltop after a standout career at Spain Park High School, where she averaged a double-double during her senior season. Philpot was a three-year starter for the Jaguars and was also a team captain.
"We are very excited that Elizabeth will be joining us this fall," said Ricks. "We feel like we are getting a versatile player – she can score inside and hit the three as well. The best part is that she is a great student and a great person. BSC is getting a good one."
In addition to basketball, Philpot is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta and Rho Kappa Honor Societies. She also is a member of the National French Honor Society and she will graduate in the top 10 percent of her class later this month.
"I felt that BSC was the best fit for me, both academically and athletically," said Philpot. "I knew that it was going to be a place where I would be challenged both on and off the court. I already know most of the girls and I am excited about getting to know them better."
Philpot plans to major in biology at BSC.
