    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern athletics department announced the winners of its big awards and recognized the accomplishments of the student-athletes at its 2017 Athletic Awards Dinner Monday night in the Norton Great Hall on BSC’s campus.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team fell in the Southern Athletic Association championship game Sunday afternoon 60-55 to Hendrix College in Bill Battle Coliseum. Jothani Dixon (Tuscumbia, Ala./Deshler HS) and Laura Van Peursem (Huntsville, Ala./Randolph HS) earned all-tournament honors for their play this weekend.
  • SAA Tournament: BSC Headed to Championship After Win

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team will get a chance to defend its tournament title Sunday after defeating Oglethorpe University 72-56 in the semifinals of the 2017 Southern Athletic Association Tournament. BSC (17-10) shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter to secure its second consecutive trip to the championship game.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball saw four Panthers recognized on Southern Athletic Association All-Conference teams headlined by SAA Newcomer of the Year Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS). Head Coach Mike Ricks was named coach of the year for leading the panthers to their second consecutive SAA regular season title.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the 2017 Southern Athletic Association tournament after fending off Rhodes College 59-51 in game one. BSC (16-10) will play Oglethorpe University at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon for a chance to defend their title.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After repeating as Southern Athletic Association regular season champions, the Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team will host the leagues postseason tournament for the second consecutive year. BSC welcomes seven teams to the Bill Battle Coliseum this Friday, Feb. 24 as they vie for the 2017 tournament title and bid to the NCAA tournament.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team cut the nets Saturday afternoon in Bill Battle Coliseum after successfully defending their 2016 title and becoming the 2017 Southern Athletic Association regular season champions. The Panthers defeated Millsaps College 73-66 to finish first in the league and earn the No. 1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament.

    MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – A free-throw with no time on the clock determined Sunday’s winner in a battle between Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball and Berry College. The Panthers fell 59-58 in overtime on the road to move to 14-10 overall, 10-4 in Southern Athletic Association play.

The Panthers moved to 13-9 overall and 8-3 against Southern Athletic Association opponents with the loss.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team handed Oglethorpe University its first Southern Athletic Association loss of the season Friday night. The Panthers won 64-55 to improve to 9-6 on the year and 4-0 in SAA play. Oglethorpe dropped to 9-6, 3-1 SAA with the loss.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team went on a 22-8 run in the fourth quarter to defeat Rhodes College 61-48 Friday night. The win was the Panthers third consecutive and second against a Southern Athletic Association opponent. They improved to 7-6 overall with the win, 2-0 in the SAA.

This is the fewest points BSC has allowed an opponent this season. The Panthers are now 6-6 on the year. Agnes Scott moved to 1-5 overall.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Senior Laura Van Peursem (Huntsville, Ala./Randolph School) is a hardworking, determined, and goal-oriented individual. She is a two-sport student-athlete at Birmingham-Southern College while majoring in biology with a psychology minor. A four-year starter and three-time all-conference volleyball player, Van Peursem is also a four-year starter and all-conference basketball player.
