BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team dropped its first home game of the season Friday night in Bill Battle Coliseum against Southern Athletic Association rival Rhodes College 47-40. The Panthers move to 13-8 overall, 8-2 in SAA play with the loss.
Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) earned a double-double with game-highs of 12 points and 14 rebounds.
BSC trailed by one, 39-38, with a minute to play in the game. On their next possession, Rhodes hit a three with 43 seconds left to extend their lead to four. The Panthers called timeout and advanced the ball to set up an offensive opportunity.
But Rhodes would steal the inbounds pass and force the Panthers to foul. The Lynx hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
The Panthers remain at home for their next matchup. They take on Hendrix University this Sunday, Feb. 5 in a doubleheader with the men's team. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
