BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s golf team finished in first place in the 2008 Tri-Match tournament at Highland Park Golf Club today defeating NAIA, Spring Hill, and Division II, Montevallo. The team score of 595 is the lowest-ever overall score for the Panthers in a two round tournament.
BSC’s Jordan Hardy led all players on the day, finishing six-over par at 146. Her teammates did very well also, Taylor Kirby finished second at 149. Ashley Lovell and Sam Keller tied with Montevallo’s Britney Martin for third, all three finished at 150. Montevallo finished second overall at 626 and Spring Hill came in at 655 for both rounds.
The Panthers led both rounds of the tournament, and they did it without their star player. According to head coach Casey Smith, “Kelly Burgess couldn’t get out of classes for today’s match and we still finished with one of the best scores we’ve ever posted. I can’t say enough about the way everyone played today.”
The Panthers will take their two tournament wins back on the road on the 27th of September as they will participate in the Yale University Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut.
